Being a teenager is tough, but for neurodivergent teens, it can sometimes feel like you’re navigating an entirely different world. Whether you’re experiencing challenges with social situations, school, or just trying to fit in, it’s easy to feel out of place. If this sounds familiar, know that you’re not alone—and there’s help available. Therapy for neurodivergent teens in Katy, TX, offers tools, understanding, and support to help you thrive.

What Does It Mean to Be Neurodivergent?

The term “neurodivergent” includes a wide range of brain differences, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and Tourette’s Syndrome. Being neurodivergent isn’t about having something “wrong” with you—it’s about your brain processing information differently than others. These differences can come with challenges, but they also bring unique strengths and perspectives.

Common Challenges for Neurodivergent Teens

As a neurodivergent teen, you may face struggles that others don’t fully understand. Here are a few common challenges:

Social Situations: Making friends, reading social cues, or feeling comfortable in group settings can be overwhelming.

School Stress: Traditional classroom settings might not match how you learn best, leading to frustration or anxiety.

Self-Esteem: Feeling different from your peers may affect how you see yourself, leaving you feeling unsure of your value.

Sensory Overload: Bright lights, loud noises, or crowded spaces can sometimes feel too intense.

How Teen Therapy Can Help

Teen therapy offers a safe space where you can work through challenges, explore your strengths, and learn skills to navigate life with confidence. Here’s how it can help:

1. Building Social Confidence

Therapists who specialize in neurodivergence can help you practice social skills in a supportive environment. Through role-playing, discussions, and strategies tailored to you, therapy can help you connect with others in ways that feel authentic and comfortable.

2. Managing Stress and Emotions

Therapy can teach you techniques to manage feelings of anxiety, frustration, or sadness. Tools like mindfulness, relaxation exercises, and emotional regulation strategies can make overwhelming situations feel more manageable.

3. Discovering Your Strengths

Therapy isn’t just about solving problems—it’s also about celebrating who you are. A therapist can help you recognize and build on your unique talents and perspectives, boosting your self-esteem.

4. Advocating for Yourself

Knowing how to communicate your needs—at school, at home, or in social situations—can make a huge difference. Therapy can help you develop the confidence and skills to express yourself clearly and advocate for the support you deserve.

I'm Quique (say it like "key+kay"), the co-founder and lead therapist at The Neurodiversity Center of Katy. Working with neurodivergent individuals is my passion. My clients often tell me that they find it easy to relate to me and appreciate my blend of expertise and down-to-earth advice.

For over two decades, I've dedicated my career to supporting neurodivergent individuals. My journey began in youth ministry, transitioned into teaching at a high school tailored for neurodiverse students, and ultimately led me to therapy.

My personal encounter with psychological challenges deeply informs my work. Diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome in my youth and later grappling with OCD as an adult, my therapeutic journey was transformative. It was through engaging with a skilled therapist that I learned to navigate my challenges productively. This experience was so impactful that it propelled me to support other men facing similar neurodiverse challenges.

I'm known for my vibrant personality and my knack for establishing genuine connections with neurodiverse clients. My therapeutic approach is engaging, focused on solutions, and tailored to meet the individual needs of each client.

Outside of my professional life, I'm a family man, blessed with a loving wife, four children, and two dogs—a pug and a French bulldog. My hobbies include writing, podcasting, exercising, watching TV, and spending quality time with friends.

Feel free to contact me. I would love to know how I can support you on your therapy journey.
